"Are you ready kids? Aye, aye, Captain!"
We are thrilled to announce auditions for our upcoming 2025 fall musical- "The SpongeBob Musical, Youth Edition"!!!
AUDITION INFORMATION
WHEN: Tuesday, September 2nd & Wednesday, September 3rd (only attend one day).
TIME: 6:00pm start time (for kids in grades K-2) and 6:30pm start time (for kids in grades 3-12). Depending on how many kids show up, they typically last a couple of hours but we recommend arriving no later than 7:30.
WHERE: The Fenton Village Players Theatre located at 14197 Torrey Rd. Fenton, 48430 (parking and entrance at the back of the building).
WHO CAN AUDITION: All kids going into grades K-12. No theatre or dance experience is required.
HOW MANY KIDS WILL BE CAST: At KTK, all kids who audition will be offered a spot in the show. It is our mission to offer kids at all levels (beginner to advanced) a fun and instructional theatre experience. *We do not guarantee that all kids will receive a speaking role but the ensemble is a GREAT place to also learn how to be on stage while singing and dancing throughout many parts of the show. We typically end up with 2-4 casts depending on how many kids audition.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING & AFTER AUDITIONS: The night of auditions you will come inside with your child and we will have paperwork for you to fill out. Your child will be given an audition number and then will be placed into a group while they wait to be called back into the audition room. You will not go back with your kid during their audition. Groups of kids will be called into the audition room where they will be walked through that process- saying their name and age, singing 1 minute of a song of their choice (acapella), and then reading scenes from the script (if they are of reading age). The audition lasts approximately 10 mins. After that they will be escorted back to their parents and you will check out at one of our registration tables and then are free to leave. All kids who auditioned will receive an email (we recommend this being a parent email address, not the child's) after a few days with their casting offer that you will then either accept or reject.
REHEARSAL INFO: Rehearsals will start on Monday, September 8th. We have rehearsals on M,T,W,TH from 6:00-7:30 and then 3 weeks before opening we extend rehearsal times to 5:45-8:15. Your kid will either be placed on a M/W or a T/TH rehearsal schedule. On M&T we will work on vocals and on W&TH they will work on choreography. Your kid will only come to rehearsals 2 days a week- either Mon & Wed or on Tues & Thurs. If your kid is only available to come on Mon & Tues or on Wed & Thurs- we will be doing the exact same thing both of those days so they will either miss out on learning the songs or the dances. We can make some exceptions if your kid is only available to come on a Mon & Thurs or a Tues & Wed so let us know at auditions if you fall into one of those categories so we can work with you.
PERFORMANCE INFO: Our performances will be the weekends of Nov. 14-16 & Nov. 21-23 (with a possible performance on Nov. 20th). We will have anywhere from a total of 8-12 performances depending on how many casts we end up with. Your kid will only perform in approximately 3-6 of those shows, again depending on a few different factors. A show schedule will be sent out after rehearsals have started and details get ironed out.
COST: There is a $25 annual FAMILY membership fee that will be due UNLESS someone in your family was in our spring or summer musical and you already paid it for 2025. There is a production fee due for EVERY child cast which includes their script, show t-shirt, main costume, rehearsals, performances, cast party, etc. (*does not include performance tickets to watch the show)- $75 for the 1st kid and $65 for every kid after that (if you have multiple kids in our show). Lastly, we collect a SEPERATE $40 participation check (one per family) that is not cashed and is shredded once you fulfill your volunteer duties. A lot of work goes into putting on these shows so as you can imagine we need lots of help in order for them to run smoothly. There will be MANY opportunities to sign up and help, from stapling scripts to selling flowers and candy, to monitoring the kids in our green room during shows.
PARENT MEETING: We will be having a parent meeting the first day of your kid's rehearsal (so either Monday, September 8th or Tuesday, September 9th) from 6:00-7:30. Your kid will be doing their rehearsal (read-through) in one room and then our production team will meet in another room with all of the parents to give you A LOT more info, answer your questions, collect all of the fees, hand out scripts, etc. This is hugely recommended for any new families but also very helpful for families that have already been involved so everyone please plan on attending even if your not new to our group. It's a chance to meet our production team members and get caught up / reminded of our rules, procedures, etc. (some of which may be new).
Our SpongeBob production team is SO EXCITED to get started with this show. We can't wait to see all of you kids at auditions in a few weeks. Break a leg!
